Morocco: Quadruple Trade Union Coordination Threatens Municipalities with Paralysis, Calls for March to Ministry of Interior

Morocco: Quadruple Trade Union Coordination Threatens Municipalities with Paralysis, Calls for March to Ministry of Interior

ALGIERS- The quadruple trade union coordination in the local government sector is gearing up for a nationwide strike lasting three days, starting from tomorrow, Tuesday, April 23rd. This decision comes in response to what they perceive as “the Ministry of Interior’s refusal to engage in dialogue with labor representatives, despite repeated attempts through official correspondence.”

The unions are expressing deep concerns about “the dire conditions faced by employees in the local government sector, and the unfair treatment and discrimination they endure compared to other public sector employees, making it the least attractive sector for many professional categories in Morocco.”

In addition to the strike action, the unions have announced plans for a national march in Rabat next Wednesday, commencing from in front of the Parliament and culminating at the Ministry of Interior.

It’s well-documented that the local government sector has been marred by protests and frequent strikes, with labor demanding to be “treated on par with employees in all ministerial sectors.”
