ALGIERS- The National Coordination of the Education Sector in Morocco has declared its commitment to “continue the struggle alongside all education unions, both active and retired, until achieving all legitimate and common demands.”
In a statement, the coordination affirmed its intention to discuss the protest program later, following a consultative meeting held on December 31. The decision comes after evaluating the outcomes of previous agreements, which the coordination deemed disappointing for various education worker categories.
Sources within the education coordination in Morocco revealed ongoing efforts to coordinate among various education unions. This includes the Unified Coordination of Teaching Staff, Support Staff, and the Secondary Education Coordination. The National Coordination emphasized its dedication to developing a unified program that encompasses a three-day strike within the current week.
Contrary to the hopes of the Moroccan government and the five most representative education unions in the country, anticipating the return of teachers to classrooms and the resumption of classes, the education workforce seems to hold a different opinion. This sentiment has been conveyed through participation rates in the strike, which exceeded expectations.
While the number of participants in the education strikes has seen a relative decline compared to the days preceding the agreement on December 26 between education unions and the Moroccan government, it remains significantly high.
It’s worth noting that the three most influential coordination bodies in the education sector announced their rejection of the agreement signed on December 26. They declared their intention to continue escalating protests and objections.
