Morocco – In the wake of the “Al Aqsa Flood” operation launched by Hamas, the Palestinian question has surged back into the international spotlight, reigniting a fierce debate on the normalization of relations between Morocco and the Zionist entity. Moroccan internet users have been vocal in expressing their discontent, debunking arguments in favor of this normalization and denouncing the official position of the Makhzen.
The wave of discontent sweeping through Moroccan social networks raises questions about the promises made when relations with the Zionist entity were normalized. Moroccan internet users have leveled sharp criticisms against the Makhzen and its policy of rapprochement with the Zionist entity, even going so far as to accuse André Azoulay, an advisor to the King of Morocco, of receiving a medal of honor from “the Zionist entity.”
The recent atrocities committed by the Zionist Defense Forces (IDF) in Gaza have further fueled opposition to normalization. Internet users are directly addressing supporters of the policy, emphasizing their complicity in the suffering of Palestinians in Jerusalem.
“We were told that the IDF would protect us. This is your army. This is your IDF. This is our Palestine, our resistance. We are the true supporters of Palestine, the real people of Morocco,” they declare passionately.
These testimonies reveal a growing divide between the official position of the Makhzen and the sentiments of the Moroccan people. Many see the Palestinian question as “a national cause,” aligning with the suffering of the Palestinian people.
A noticeable political divide has emerged within the Moroccan political class. The Party for Justice and Democracy (PJD) has publicly endorsed Hamas’ operations and hailed the “Al Aqsa Flood” operation as heroic, asserting that resistance is a legitimate right. However, this position has drawn criticism from other political parties in Morocco that adhere to the official stance of the Kingdom.
The National Rally of Independents, led by Moroccan Prime Minister Abdel Aziz Akhannouch, emphasizes alleged Morocco’s efforts and King Mohammed VI’s commitment to achieving a “just, global, and lasting solution” to the conflict.
The Dove Party has reacted to the PJD’s pro-Hamas stance by calling for support for “the official position of the Kingdom of Morocco.”
