Morocco: Trade Unions Call for General Strike in Protest of Lack of Dialogue in Employment Sector

BY: Dr. Hana Saada

ALGIERS- Various trade unions within Morocco’s Ministry of Economic Integration, Small Enterprises, Employment, and Skills Sector have called for a sector-wide general strike on Tuesday, April 16th.

The unions within the employment sector condemned the ongoing absence of any substantial and productive sectorial dialogue, urging sector employees to actively participate in the upcoming sector-wide general strike they have called for.

Furthermore, the unions criticized what they referred to as the deafening silence with which the Ministry has responded to protest movements, emphasizing the necessity of making Tuesday, April 16th, 2024, a day to express vehement anger against the policy of procrastination and evasion pursued by the Ministry towards the just, fair, and deserving demands of sector employees.

It is expected that sector employees will hold a one-hour protest demonstration on the same day in front of the Ministry’s headquarters in Rabat. The unions noted that this escalation in protest is backed and supported by the Moroccan Association of Labor Inspectors.
