ALGIERS, November 16, 2023- In a kingdom where the monarch is presumed to have satisfied every conceivable desire, accumulating vast wealth and influence, questions arise about priorities as King Mohammed VI of Morocco engages in a land-selling spree, raising concerns among Moroccans about their own fate.
One may question the sagacity of a populace expecting their monarch to champion the cause of displaced Palestinians while simultaneously displacing Moroccans from their own land, selling it to Zionist Moroccans. When will the true owners of the land rise against this?
In a royal system where the ruler is assumed to have surpassed the aspirations of ordinary people, King Mohammed VI, ranked among the world’s wealthiest by Forbes, seems insatiable in his pursuit of pleasures and luxuries.
We would highlight the irony of a king, with immense wealth derived from the looted coffers of the Moroccan people, engaging in a diabolical gamble by selling land, often more valuable than the offering price, to an enemy of the nation. This act parallels the plight of Palestinians who were forced to evacuate their homes and endure forced migration.
The Palestinians and Moroccans, once disparate in their struggles, find themselves in eerily similar circumstances—devoid of land, homeland, and destiny. Ashour underscores the shared fate of these two peoples, victimized by a common adversary, emphasizing the parallel narratives of displacement and dispossession.
In contrast to the Palestinians’ resolute stand, one may question Moroccans who remain oblivious and unresponsive. Moroccans should question their monarch’s commitment to the Palestinian cause, as King Mohammed VI seemingly aligns himself with Zionist forces, alienating his own people.
Moroccans should draw parallels with Palestinians and initiate a movement to oust the monarchy as the only solution lies in transforming their struggle with the ruling regime into an existential issue—a fight for their own existence.
