Amid Economic Hardship, the Moroccan Regime Prioritizes French Favor Over Its Starving Population

Algiers, Algeria | February 25th, 2025 — Algerian news sources have revealed that the Moroccan monarchy, in a desperate attempt to curry favor with its former colonial master, paid a staggering $1 million bribe to France to secure its designation as the “Guest of Honor” at the Paris International Agricultural Show. This move further exposes the subservience of the Moroccan regime to Western powers, particularly France, at the expense of its struggling population.

 

While ordinary Moroccans endure deepening social and economic hardships, exacerbated by rising inflation, unemployment, and poverty, the regime’s priorities remain fixated on diplomatic flattery and external validation. The situation is particularly dire in the Al Haouz region, where thousands of earthquake victims continue to suffer in neglect over a year and a half after the devastating tremor. Instead of directing funds toward rebuilding efforts or supporting the countless displaced families, the Moroccan leadership opts to squander public resources on securing ceremonial prestige in Paris.

At the heart of this scandal stands Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, a billionaire businessman whose conflicts of interest and controversial dealings have long drawn criticism. As the economic crisis tightens its grip on the country, Akhannouch has chosen to jet off to France, carrying a bribe worth $1 million—money that could have been used to alleviate his people’s suffering. This shameful transaction underscores the kingdom’s ongoing submission to French dictates, proving once again that Rabat operates not as an independent state but as a vassal of its former colonial ruler.

The Moroccan regime’s disgraceful priorities leave no doubt about its disregard for its citizens’ well-being. Rather than investing in sustainable development, social welfare, or disaster relief, it engages in diplomatic theatrics and lavish bribes to secure symbolic recognition abroad.
