Mustapha Yahi: September 7 Presidential Election Is a Crucial National and Ethical Imperative for Institutional Development

Algiers, Algeria | July 27th, 2024 — Mustapha Yahi, Secretary General of the National Democratic Rally (RND), has endorsed the Independent National Election Authority’s decision to accept the candidacy of independent candidate Abdelmadjid Tebboune, calling the move “expected and logical.” At a public gathering in Mostaganem on Saturday, Yahi expressed strong support for the accepted candidates and highlighted the election campaign as a crucial opportunity for articulating ideas, visions, and solutions to advance Algeria.

Yahi characterized the forthcoming presidential election as a “national and ethical duty” essential for establishing a robust state of institutions founded on democracy, transparency, and fair competition. He emphasized the need to reject previous practices associated with corrupt money, fraud, and overlapping powers that have historically undermined the state.

“The realization of democracy through a transparent and honest electoral process is vital for the development, safeguarding, and strengthening of state institutions,” Yahi stated. He urged Algerians to participate actively in the electoral process, particularly by voting on September 7, as their engagement is key to countering skepticism and opposition regarding the election’s legitimacy.

The RND has reaffirmed its commitment to engaging fully in the remaining stages of the electoral process. This includes bolstering the campaign for independent candidate Abdelmadjid Tebboune, advocating for his program, and mobilizing party members and supporters to ensure the election’s success.

Yahi also reiterated the RND’s support for President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s economic vision, which aims to achieve a gross domestic product of around $400 billion in the coming years and to double non-hydrocarbon export revenues by 2030.
