Algiers, Algeria | May 25, 2024 — Mustapha Yahi, Secretary-General of the National Democratic Rally (RND), has made a strong appeal for the election of a president who enjoys national consensus, highlighting the critical need for unity in Algeria’s current political climate.
A Call for National Unity
Speaking at a party gathering in Mila on Saturday, Yahi underscored the importance of electing a president who can unify the nation. “Algeria needs a man of national consensus to build the future,” Yahi stated, reinforcing the RND’s commitment to continuing reforms and advancing social gains under such a leader.
Yahi praised the achievements and commitments of the current President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, during his tenure, noting the progress made under his administration. He emphasized the RND’s dedication to supporting these achievements and furthering the country’s development through a leader who embodies national unity.
The Party’s Direction
Addressing party members, Yahi reaffirmed the RND’s direction and strategy, which he believes are aligned with the country’s current needs. “You know the direction of our compass,” Yahi told the attendees, “because we firmly believe that the current phase requires a president who is a symbol of national consensus and around whom the people can rally strongly.”
Awareness and Participation in Elections
Yahi also highlighted the importance of the upcoming presidential elections, urging the Algerian people to recognize the significance of their participation. He stressed that the public is well aware of the critical nature of the elections and the threats posed by what he referred to as “forces of evil.” He called on Algerians to turn out in large numbers on September 7th to vote transparently and decisively.
