Algiers, Algeria | November 12th, 2024 — The National Organization of Algerian Journalists (NOAJ) reaffirmed its dedication to fostering creativity and professional excellence through a prominent visit to the 27th Algiers International Book Fair (SILA) on Tuesday. Led by President Slimane Abdouche and members of the national executive office, the delegation highlighted the indispensable role of journalists in enriching Algeria’s cultural and intellectual fabric.

This symbolic visit celebrated the literary contributions of journalists, reflecting the NOAJ’s commitment to elevating writing as an integral extension of journalistic practice. “Literature is not merely a creative pursuit but a vital facet of journalism’s societal impact,” Abdouche remarked during the event, emphasizing the enduring relationship between journalism and literature.

Recognizing Literary Excellence

The NOAJ delegation honored several distinguished journalists whose works have gained recognition at this year’s book fair. Nadjm Eddine Sidi Othmane was commended for his insightful publications on sports and nutritional health, while Othmane Lahyani received acclaim for his compelling book Questions of the Flood and Answers of the Revolution. Rafiq Mouhoub’s novel Al-Harrab also earned praise, along with the notable contributions of the journalist Tahar Hallisi and other influential figures in Algeria’s media landscape.

Adding intellectual gravitas to the visit, the delegation engaged with Dr. Mahieddine Amimour, former Minister of Culture, ex-President of the Senate’s Foreign Affairs Committee, and Advisor to the President of the Republic. His presence underscored the profound connection between journalism, literature, and intellectual leadership in advancing Algeria’s cultural identity.

Cultural Diplomacy and Collaboration

The NOAJ extended its outreach to key national and international stakeholders by visiting significant pavilions, including those of the Ministry of National Defense, the National Security Directorate, and the Council of the Nation. The delegation also paid special attention to the pavilion of Qatar, this year’s Guest of Honor, reinforcing Algeria’s cultural diplomacy and fostering regional collaboration.

Encouragement and Gratitude

In a gesture of inclusivity, the NOAJ expressed its appreciation for all journalists participating in SILA 2024. Acknowledging the breadth of the fair’s activities, the organization extended apologies to those it could not meet during its visit and reiterated its steadfast support for their creative and professional endeavors.

The NOAJ’s engagement at SILA 2024 symbolizes the intersection of journalism and literature as a dynamic force shaping Algeria’s cultural evolution. By honoring the literary achievements of journalists and fostering dialogue with key cultural and diplomatic partners, the organization demonstrated its commitment to nurturing a vibrant intellectual ecosystem that inspires and informs Algerian society.
