National Organization of Algerian Journalists (NOAJ) Condemns French Interference and Provocative Attacks on Algeria’s Sovereignty

Algiers, Algeria | January 08th, 2025 — The National Organization of Algerian Journalists (NOAJ) expressed its strong condemnation on Tuesday regarding France’s continued hostile and provocative actions towards Algeria, particularly focusing on the latest series of statements that constitute “an outright and unacceptable interference in Algeria’s internal affairs.”

In an official statement, the NOAJ decried the repeated verbal blunders from French officials, labeling them as reflective of an outdated and arrogant worldview, which has long been surpassed by history. “These actions, perpetuated by the occupants of the Élysée and their allies, reveal a profound political bankruptcy and an unfortunate disregard for Algeria’s sovereignty,” said the NOAJ. The statement emphasized that the Algeria of yesterday, which expelled its colonizers through the sacrifices of its martyrs and the determined efforts of its patriots, continues to serve as a beacon for future generations.

The NOAJ also highlighted the mounting setbacks faced by French diplomacy on the global stage, particularly in Africa, where it has seen a series of diplomatic defeats. The organization pointed out that these failures, compounded by internal political turmoil in France, have left French leaders grasping for scapegoats, with Algeria becoming their unwarranted target. “In their desperate search for a ‘scapegoat,’ these figures, who have insulted Algeria and its history, betrayed their country and sold their consciences, are now attempting to meddle in the internal affairs of an independent and sovereign nation,” the NOAJ remarked.

The statement went on to call attention to France’s recent diplomatic blunder, following Algeria’s firm reminder of its colonial past, specifically highlighting the atrocities committed during the French occupation, including nuclear testing in the Algerian desert, the legacy of which continues to affect the region today. “France’s colonial crimes against humanity remain unpunished, and its refusal to acknowledge this dark chapter only underscores its disregard for justice,” the NOAJ added, calling for an official apology and immediate redress for the ongoing repercussions of nuclear tests.

The NOAJ further characterized France’s ongoing provocations as a clear attempt to undermine the sovereignty of Algeria, a country with long-established constitutional institutions and a democratic system that is rooted in the will of its people. “The latest actions by the French state represent another attempt at blatant interference in the internal affairs of a free and sovereign nation,” the NOAJ stated, reiterating that Algeria’s path forward is defined by its commitment to its people and its national integrity.

As Algeria continues to assert its leadership on the international stage, notably through its role as President of the United Nations Security Council, the NOAJ emphasized that these baseless attacks from France will not deter Algeria’s progress. The organization underscored the significant diplomatic, political, and economic strides that Algeria is making, including its unwavering support for justice-driven global causes such as the Palestinian issue and the struggle of the Sahrawi people for self-determination.

The NOAJ also recognized the growing awareness and unity within Algerian civil society, political leaders, and intellectual elites, as they collectively stand resolute against external interference and subversive efforts targeting the nation. “The heightened consciousness of the Algerian people in the face of conspiracies aimed at undermining our sovereignty is evident,” the NOAJ stated, calling for internal cohesion and solidarity in safeguarding the nation’s achievements.

Finally, the NOAJ called on Algerian journalists to play a pivotal role in exposing foreign conspiracies and defending Algeria’s legacy. The organization urged journalists to actively participate in spreading national awareness, advocating for justice, and engaging in the ongoing struggle to protect Algeria’s sovereignty and security. “Our mission is clear: to champion the just causes of our people, defend the country’s dignity, and stand firm against any media manipulations or foreign schemes aimed at destabilizing Algeria,” the NOAJ concluded, reaffirming its commitment to fostering a strong, independent, and united Algeria.
