ALGIERS- In a significant move to boost youth engagement in vital sectors, the National Youth Council (NYC) signed two framework agreements on Thursday in Oran. The agreements, inked with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Fisheries and Halieutic Productions, aim to fortify cooperation in supporting young entrepreneurs in their private ventures, fostering their integration into the agriculture and fisheries domains.

Mustapha Hidaoui, President of the NYC, and the Ministers of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mohamed Abdelhafid Henni, and Fisheries and Halieutic Productions, Ahmed Bidani, executed the agreements on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the 2nd edition of the Algeria Youth Forum organized by the NYC.

Mr. Henni emphasized the significance of these conventions, asserting that they will encourage greater youth involvement in agriculture, especially given geopolitical and climatic shifts that necessitate ensuring food security for countries to achieve national security. He urged young graduates from higher education and vocational training to show interest and engage in the agricultural sector, highlighting the investment opportunities, capabilities, and support it provides.

Regarding the second framework agreement, Mr. Bidani stated that its objective is to enhance collaboration in supporting youth, particularly in training, investment aspects, and providing sufficient guidance and support for the success of their projects related to the sector. He emphasized that youth participation will be a significant contribution across various sectors, including fisheries.

The agreement also aims to identify areas of cooperation between the parties within their respective interests, strengthen effective collaborative work, and exchange experiences with youth to promote their involvement in achieving sustainable national sector development goals. Additionally, it seeks to develop their practical project implementation skills contributing to food security.

The focus is on supporting youth entrepreneurship in small and medium-sized enterprises and startups related to fishing and aquaculture. This involves providing sector-specific services, training programs to enhance their capacities, encouraging creative energies related to the sector, and promoting the culture of preserving marine resources among young individuals.

The agreement further seeks to gather youth experiences, highlight successful models related to fisheries and aquaculture activities, encourage creative capacities in innovation and digitization, and utilize smart applications and artificial intelligence technologies to enhance work efficiency and sustainability, particularly in integrated aquaculture and agriculture.
