ALGIERS- In a recent interview on national radio Channel 3, Badis Khenissa, president of the Cooperation and National Community Abroad Commission within the National Observatory of Civil Society, shared his thoughts on the evolving landscape of New Algeria’s diplomacy. According to him, “the New Algeria is disturbing,” but for reasons that are far from negative.
Mr. Khenissa highlighted Algeria’s return to hope as a key factor that contributes to its disturbance. After facing various challenges in the past, the nation is now in the process of carrying out a diplomatic redeployment, both in Africa and on the international stage. Algeria has emerged as a major actor with a diplomacy characterized by benevolence, altruism, and pragmatism.
One of the significant impacts of Algeria’s redefined diplomatic approach is its strong representation of the voices of the people it stands for, not only within the African continent but also on the global platform, including the United Nations Security Council. Algeria’ stance against attempts to include the Zionist entity within the African Union has showcased its commitment to protecting the interests of African nations.
This assertive position has not been without challenges, especially from former colonial powers like France, which may find it difficult to come to terms with Algeria’s growing influence. Algeria’s rise as a major player and gateway to Africa has made it the voice of the voiceless, and this represents a paradigm shift in the dynamics of international relations.
Addressing France’s perspective on Africa’s decline, Mr. Khenissa pointed out that such views are a result of political decline rather than an accurate reflection of the continent’s potential. He attributed this misconception to France’s historically haughty and condescending attitude towards African nations, denying them the right to development and dignity for decades, if not centuries.
Moreover, the expert noted an inconsistency in France’ stance towards Russian media amidst the crisis in Ukraine. He criticized France for considering itself the cradle of human rights while demonstrating an attitude towards Russia that seems to contradict these very principles.
Algeria’s determination to establish itself as a significant diplomatic player has certainly caused ripples in the international arena, creating discomfort for some but hope and inspiration for others. As the nation continues to assert its presence and advocate for the rights of the voiceless, it will inevitably challenge the status quo and foster a new era of diplomatic relations.
In conclusion, Algeria’s resurgence in diplomacy should be seen as an opportunity for positive change and collaboration. The country’s commitment to represent the interests of the African continent and marginalized peoples worldwide should be acknowledged and embraced by the international community. As the world witnesses Algeria’s evolution, it becomes evident that it is more than just a disturbance; it is a beacon of hope for a fairer and more equitable global order.
