ALGIERS- The governor of Khenchela announced on Tuesday that the long-awaited Khenchela-Aïn Beida railway project is set to be operational “before the end of April.”
Under the directive of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, this railway line, a crucial component of the supplemental program for the region, is nearing completion, with only final touches remaining before its inauguration by the end of the current month.
Emphasizing the accelerated progress, the governor noted the significant presence of construction companies, with 210 workers mobilized to expedite the project’s completion. Within a span of just 10 days, the main station, along with the secondary stations of Baghaï and Metoussa, will be ready for service.
The primary objective of this ambitious initiative, supported by a budget of 51 billion Algerian dinars, is to integrate Khenchela into the national railway network, thereby alleviating regional isolation and facilitating economic growth.
Highlighting the technical specifications, the director of ANESRIF underscored that the 50-kilometer railway line will enable passenger trains to operate at speeds of up to 160 km/h, while freight trains will run at 100 km/h. This enhanced infrastructure promises efficient transportation solutions for both passengers and goods, bolstering trade and connectivity across the region.
With its strategic importance for regional development, the Khenchela-Aïn Beida railway project signifies a significant step forward in Algeria’s efforts to modernize its transportation infrastructure and stimulate economic progress.
