ALGIERS– President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune noted that the new law on the exercise of trade union rights will allow trade union organizations to regain their vigor and credibility.
“The exercise of the right to organize is a right guaranteed by the Constitution”, stressed President Tebboune during his periodic interview with national media representatives, broadcast on Friday evening on national television and radio stations.
“We have passed the stage of the anarchic creation of unions and we are now working to enable the union organizations to regain their vigor and credibility,” added President Tebboune, considering it “insane, for example, to ‘have 34 unions in the same sector’.
According to the President of the Republic, the new law “frames the creation of trade unions”. “The unions are neither harmed nor prevented, but rather it is a question of enshrining the law and putting an end to unacceptable practices”, insisted President Tebboune.
He cited, in this regard, the strike, which is under the law “the final stage of the protest process, once all the legal stages have been exhausted”.
