ALGIERS- The Nicaraguan government has closed its embassy in Berlin following a complaint filed at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) accusing Germany of complicity in Zionist crimes committed in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023.

“Moving forward, Nicaragua’s diplomatic mission in Austria will assume the official functions of the embassy in Berlin,” reported the German news agency on Wednesday evening, citing an employee of the Nicaraguan embassy in Vienna. “Consular functions will also be carried out from Vienna in the future,” the same source added. Nicaragua had requested on Monday that the ICJ call on Germany to cease providing weapons to the Zionist entity, which has relentlessly pursued its genocidal aggression against the Gaza Strip. “Germany was and is fully aware of the risks of using the weapons it has supplied and continues to supply to (the Zionist entity) for the purpose of committing genocide against the Palestinian people,” stated Alain Pellet, Nicaragua’s legal counsel, before the UN’s highest court.

Last Friday, the UN’s top human rights body urged countries to stop selling or shipping weapons to the Zionist entity. Additionally, on April 3, at least 600 British jurists called on their government to suspend arms sales to the Zionist entity. It is worth noting that the ICJ had imposed provisional measures in January ordering the Zionist entity to do everything possible to prevent death, destruction, and acts of genocide in Gaza.
