KAMPALA, UGANDA – Algeria’s pioneering role in counterterrorism efforts was lauded during the 19th summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) held in Kampala, Uganda. The movement recognized Algeria’s expertise and experience in combating terrorism, acknowledging its pivotal role in addressing the security challenges faced by the region and beyond.
The geopolitical landscape in the region has witnessed political instability leading to a security crisis that has affected the entire region and neighboring countries. Algeria, drawing from its own experiences, has developed recognized expertise in counterterrorism strategies. This expertise, now acknowledged by the Non-Aligned Movement, positions Algeria as a key player in addressing the multifaceted challenges posed by terrorist groups.
The final documents of the 19th NAM summit specifically highlighted Algeria’s leadership, under the guidance of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in the fight against terrorism and responses to natural disasters. The Non-Aligned Movement expressed appreciation for Algeria’s proactive approach and the effectiveness of its counterterrorism measures.
The summit’s final documents also welcomed President Tebboune’s initiative to establish a special African fund dedicated to addressing disasters resulting from climate change. This underscores Algeria’s commitment to addressing not only security challenges but also environmental and humanitarian issues affecting the African continent.
President Tebboune’s emphasis on the foundational values and principles of the Non-Aligned Movement, echoed in the final documents, reaffirms Algeria’s dedication to upholding these principles. The country’s diplomatic efforts and collaborative strategies have positioned it as a leader within the movement, contributing to global peace, security, and stability.
Algeria’s recognition by the Non-Aligned Movement reinforces the importance of international cooperation and coordination in addressing contemporary challenges. As Algeria continues to play a pivotal role in counterterrorism efforts, it stands as a beacon of stability and a model for comprehensive strategies in the fight against terrorism and its root causes.
