Non-Aligned Movement Commends President Tebboune’s Initiatives in Africa

ALGIERS- The Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) has expressed admiration for the initiatives launched by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in Africa.
The final document concluding the Summit’s proceedings, held on Friday and Saturday in Kampala, Uganda, extensively reviewed all presidential initiatives. These initiatives have garnered significant interest for their role in promoting peace, security, and sustainable development in Africa.
The Summit paid tribute to the pioneering role of the President in strengthening the fight against terrorism in Africa, particularly in his capacity as the Coordinator of the African Union (AU) in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
In this context, the Summit applauded President Tebboune’s presentation of the report on the terrorist threat in Africa during the 16th extraordinary session and the 36th regular session of the AU Conference of Heads of State and Government. The recommendations outlined in the report aim to enhance continental efforts in combating this scourge.
The Heads of State and Government of the NAM also lauded the President’s initiative to establish an African mechanism for disaster response, ensuring immediate assistance to African countries affected. The implementation of this proposal, adopted during the extraordinary humanitarian summit of the AU in May 2022, commenced in December 2022.
Additionally, NAM members expressed satisfaction with the creation of a special African fund dedicated to climate change-induced disasters. This initiative, launched by President Tebboune during the meeting of the Peace and Security Council at the level of Heads of State and Government on October 18, 2022, aims to address the challenges posed by climate-related catastrophes in the region.
