Algiers, Algeria | December 17th, 2024 — In an alignment of state policies and private sector commitment, Algeria’s economic operators have demonstrated unwavering support for the government’s ambitious efforts to promote non-hydrocarbon exports, a cornerstone of the nation’s economic diversification strategy.

Kamel Moula, President of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), lauded the proactive measures introduced by the state, describing them as crucial to achieving economic sovereignty. Speaking to the People’s National Assembly (APN), Moula underscored initiatives such as the establishment of Algerian banking networks abroad, the creation of dedicated trade corridors, and the organization of permanent exhibitions for Algerian products as “transformative steps that merit high recognition.”

Moula called on Algerian entrepreneurs to seize these opportunities by extending their operations to international markets. He emphasized the CREA’s readiness to contribute concrete proposals, leveraging the expertise of economic operators to optimize and strengthen existing tools. “The roadmap drawn by the President of the Republic provides a clear framework for advancing non-hydrocarbon exports. CREA will integrate these objectives into its strategies to assist operators in reinforcing Algeria’s economic presence globally,” Moula explained.

Promoting Investments and Export-Driven Production

To address sector-specific challenges, CREA plans to activate its dedicated export commission. This body will facilitate closer engagement with exporters and periodic sectoral meetings involving leading enterprises. “The goal is to foster synergy among all stakeholders, ensuring a unified vision in service of Algeria’s national economy,” stated Moula.

Highlighting the importance of industrial investments, Moula stressed the need for businesses to produce surpluses tailored for foreign markets. Enhancing competitiveness and vigilance against international competition is imperative, he noted, particularly as Algeria seeks to leverage its inherent competitive advantages.

“Algeria possesses unique economic assets that position it ahead of many nations. By strengthening the foundations of our export strategy, we can transform these advantages into tangible success on the global stage,” Moula added.

A National Push Toward Economic Excellence

Echoing similar sentiments, Ali Bey Nasri, Vice President of the National Association of Algerian Exporters (ANEA), hailed President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s decisive leadership in convening two high-level meetings on exports within a short span. “These meetings reflect the President’s unwavering commitment to advancing non-hydrocarbon exports, with the ambitious objective of achieving $29 billion in non-oil exports by 2030,” Nasri stated.

Nasri also highlighted the success of export-promotion measures implemented since 2020, which have strengthened Algeria’s market penetration, particularly in African countries. “The global export market is fiercely competitive, and Algerian operators need robust support to capitalize on growing demand, especially in Africa,” he said. Nasri underscored the pivotal role of Algerian banks abroad in facilitating smooth financial transactions and easing capital flows.

The Vision for Algeria’s Export Future

Addressing the culmination of recent discussions, Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Mohamed Boukhari, reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing exporters’ concerns. “The President has issued clear and firm instructions to resolve obstacles swiftly and to implement a strategic vision that positions Algeria as a regional leader in export excellence,” Boukhari declared.

The minister assured that his department would take the necessary measures to turn this vision into reality. “We are building a robust export ecosystem that not only strengthens Algeria’s economic standing but also enhances its influence across global markets,” Boukhari concluded.
