Nuclear energy: Algeria, Russia discuss cooperation intended for health field

ALGIERS– The Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, received a delegation from the Russian public company specializing in nuclear energy “Rosatom”, led by its Deputy Director General, Director of International Cooperation, Boris Arseev, during which they discussed the opportunities for cooperation, particularly in the field of nuclear techniques intended for the health sector.

According to a press release from the ministry, the talks, held in the presence of the Commissioner for Atomic Energy and officials from the ministry, focused on “the state of cooperation relations between the Commissariat for Atomic Energy (Comena ) and Rosatom in the field of nuclear energy and its energetic and non-energetic uses for peaceful purposes, as well as the prospects for their development”.

The two parties discussed topics related to “the development of cooperation, particularly in the field of the use of nuclear technology in medicine and diagnostic imaging procedures, as well as the production of radioactive isotopes in Algeria”.

They also tackled “the opportunities to exchange experiences and develop solutions to common concerns in this area”, underlined the press release.
