Algiers, Algeria | June 30th, 2024 — In a collaborative effort with the National Blood Agency, Ooredoo held a blood donation drive at its national headquarters on Sunday, involving its employees in Algiers, Oran, and Constantine. The event saw a significant turnout from Ooredoo employees, who volunteered to donate blood, contributing to the needs of hospitals and blood centers.
Ramdane Djezairi, Director of Corporate Affairs at Ooredoo, emphasized that this initiative is part of a series of activities organized by the company to enhance the well-being of the Algerian community. He highlighted that previous campaigns have resulted in the collection of hundreds of blood bags, benefiting over a thousand patients. Djezairi reiterated Ooredoo’s commitment to making a positive impact on people’s lives and promoting community solidarity.
Houria Touafdit, Director General of the National Blood Agency, acknowledged Ooredoo as a long-term partner in blood donation efforts, collaborating for over a decade. She noted that the beginning of the summer season often sees a decline in the number of blood donors, making this initiative crucial for encouraging employees in various institutions to participate. Touafdi also called on the general public to donate blood, leveraging media channels to spread the message.
Touafdit emphasized the vital importance of blood donation, noting that for some medical conditions, there is no substitute for donated blood. She highlighted the significance of this initiative and urged all institutions, associations, and citizens aged between 18 and 65 to contribute to saving patients’ lives. She pointed out that each blood donor has the potential to save three lives, a sentiment echoed by nurse Anfal Salama in a side statement.
The campaign serves as a vital reminder of the continuous need for blood donations, especially during periods when donor numbers typically decline. By engaging employees and the wider community, Ooredoo and the National Blood Agency aim to maintain a steady supply of blood for medical emergencies and routine treatments.
This drive reflects Ooredoo’s ongoing dedication to corporate social responsibility and the well-being of the Algerian population, reinforcing the importance of community engagement and support in healthcare initiatives.
