ALGIERS, November 16, 2023- After a six-year absence, Opel, the German automaker owned by Stellantis Group, has made a triumphant return to the Algerian market. The brand launched its activities on Wednesday, November 15, at an event held in Algiers. The launch event witnessed the presence of Opel CEO Florian Huettl, Stellantis Maghreb’s General Manager Hakim Boutahra, and Nassim Benguergoura, the General Manager of Halil Commerce & Industry (HCI).

Opel becomes the third automotive brand to enter the Algerian market this year, following the Italian brand Fiat (also under the Stellantis umbrella) launched in March and the Chinese brand Chery introduced just last week.

During the launch, Opel revealed three gasoline models: Mokka, Astra, and Grandland. The Mokka, powered by a 3-cylinder 1.2L Puretech engine producing 130 horsepower, is available starting from 3.849 million dinars. This marks a significant return for the Mokka model in the Algerian market.

The Opel Astra, equipped with a 1.2L Puretech engine generating 130 horsepower, is priced from 4.319 million dinars. Lastly, the Grandland model, featuring a 4-cylinder 1.6L Puretech engine with 165 horsepower, is offered for sale starting at 4.689 million dinars.

Opel Targets 4,000 Vehicle Sales and Plans Expansion

Interested Algerian customers can place their orders as of November 19, as confirmed by the Director of Halil Commerce and Industry, Opel’s representative in Algeria.

Opel aims to commercialize around 4,000 vehicles in Algeria initially. Additionally, the German automaker has plans to expand its lineup by introducing a fourth model starting from 2024.

Expressing his enthusiasm on LinkedIn, Opel CEO Florian Huettl described the day as a “great day” for Opel in Algeria. He emphasized the brand’s commitment to meeting the needs of Algerian customers by offering advanced vehicles and services. The return of Opel brings not only new models but also competition to the Algerian automotive landscape.
