Oran: more than 9,600 tourists visited “Santa Cruz” and the “Palais du Bey” in July

More than 9,600 tourists visited the historical monuments the “Palace of the Bey” and the Fort of “Santa Cruz” during the month of July, we learned Thursday from the National Office for the Management and Exploitation of protected cultural property of Oran.

The Fort of “Santa Cruz” and the “Palais du Bey”, considered as a tourist destination par excellence in the capital of the West of the country, have thus attracted a large flow of visitors from different wilayas of the country, members of the Algerian community abroad and foreign tourists from Arab countries in particular, whose number exceeded 9,600 in July, Fatima Sari, the head of the Archaeological Division of the Office, told APS.

The Fort of “Santa Cruz”, classified as a national monument and included in the list of material national heritage, which dates back to the period of the Spanish occupation, is considered a privileged place for visitors whose number reached more than 9,000 during the month of July, said Mrs. Sari who pointed out that the month of June also recorded 9,000 visitors against 3,820 tourists in the previous May.

The enthusiasm aroused by visitors for this historical monument located on the heights of Mount Murdjadjo and offering a panorama of the city of Oran with its old quarters including “Sidi El Houari”, a popular quarter rich in historical remains and monuments, without talk about the port of Oran, one of the best postcards of this city several thousand years old, she underlined.

With regard to the “Palais du Bey”, a historical monument located in Haï “Sidi El Houari”, the throbbing heart of the city of Oran whose construction dates back to the Ottoman era, welcomed 660 visitors last July. against 659 tourists in June, according to Ms Sari who underlined, in the same vein, that “the majority of visitors to these historical monuments like to go to the house of the” Diwan “of the Palace, except that it is closed due to its vulnerability.
