ALGIERS- Health Minister Abdelhak Saihi oversaw the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Algerian Agency for Organ Transplantation and the Mauritanian Council for Organ and Human Tissue Donation.

According to a statement from the ministry, the agreement aims to “enhance cooperation between the two parties by facilitating the exchange of information, documents, and experiences in the field of organ transplantation.”

It also aims to “encourage the development of bilateral cooperation activities in this field, in accordance with the laws and regulations in force in both countries.”

The agreement also includes support for the Mauritanian side in establishing medical teams in the field of organ, cell, and tissue transplantation, exchanging modern technologies and techniques in organ transplantation. The organization of joint workshops, seminars, and scientific conferences is also on the agenda.

Among other points, the agreement addresses the care of insured Mauritanian patients in the field of organ transplantation, the exchange of visits between experts and specialists from both countries in this field to learn about the experiences of both institutions, support and development of renal transplantation center services in Mauritania, as well as the organization of training for healthcare professionals from both countries, in cooperation with the University Hospital Center of Batna.

A joint monitoring committee will be established between the two parties to ensure the monitoring and evaluation of cooperation activities, the ministry’s statement adds.

In a statement, Dr. Abdellatif Sidi Aly, director of the Mauritanian Council for Organ and Tissue Donation, emphasized the importance of this agreement, allowing “the implementation of this program,” which he described as a “societal project” because it will “alleviate the pain of our patients.”
