Palestinian Ambassador Affirms Resilience, Draws Parallel to Algerian Independence

Algiers, November 15, 2023 – In a commemorative forum marking the 35th anniversary of the declaration of the State of Palestine in Algeria, Palestinian Ambassador Fayez Abu Aita expressed gratitude for Algeria’s enduring support and emphasized the resilience of the Palestinian people against Zionist occupation.
Ambassador Abu Aita commended Algeria as a steadfast ally, stating that the country has consistently stood by the Palestinian people, who remain determined to resist and reclaim their independence until the liberation of all their lands and the establishment of their independent state.
Speaking at the event, he drew parallels between the colonization experiences of Algeria and Palestine, characterizing both as instances of settler colonialism. Abu Aita praised Algeria for its historical stance on the Palestinian issue, stating, “Algeria has long been known for its position on the Palestinian question.”
Reflecting on the significance of the declaration of the State of Palestine from Algeria 35 years ago, Abu Aita described it as a historic moment that marked the entry of Palestine into the realm of international legitimacy. He emphasized how this declaration activated political and diplomatic struggles on various fronts.
Addressing the ongoing atrocities in Gaza, Ambassador Abu Aita condemned the Zionist occupation’s attempts to create a new catastrophe reminiscent of 1948. He accused the Zionist regime of forcibly displacing Palestinians through unprecedented crimes, leading to the migration of over 1.2 million Palestinians from northern Gaza to its southern regions, where living conditions are severely restricted.
In a powerful declaration, Abu Aita stated, “The Palestinian people are resilient, and the Zionist occupation will depart from Palestine, just as the French occupation departed from Algeria.”
Regarding the current situation, he stressed that while the immediate battle is in Gaza, the entire Palestinian population is under threat, as the occupation seeks to uproot Palestinians from their land, engaging in genocide and complete crimes against humanity.
In conclusion, Ambassador Abu Aita expressed confidence that, despite the challenges and suffering, the Palestinian people will endure and prevail. He called for international protection for the Palestinian people and an end to the unjust aggression, destruction, and bloodshed inflicted upon them.
