Cairo, Egypt – In an effort to address the pressing concerns surrounding the occupied Palestinian territories, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, embarked on a diplomatic mission to Cairo, Egypt, this Wednesday, where he participated in an extraordinary ministerial meeting of the Arab League for Palestine. Upon his arrival, Minister Attaf engaged in bilateral consultations with Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary General of the Arab League, signaling a determined push for a unified Arab stance in resolving the ongoing Palestinian crisis.
In addition to his significant discussion with Secretary General Aboul Gheit, Minister Attaf convened separate meetings with his counterparts from Syria and Yemen, Mr. Faisal Al-Mekdad and Mr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, respectively. The primary focus of these meetings was the deteriorating situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
A press release issued by the Foreign Ministry reported that these diplomatic discussions revolved around “the need to develop a unified Arab position to move forward with the aim of ending the brutal Zionist aggression against the besieged Gaza Strip.” The top priority on the agenda was to ensure international protection for Palestinian civilians and to address their urgent humanitarian needs.
The pressing necessity for a serious and inclusive peace process was also a central theme of the discussions. Minister Attaf, together with his Syrian and Yemeni counterparts, emphasized the importance of offering hope to the Palestinian people and ensuring the respect of their legitimate national rights. Foremost among these rights is the inalienable and undeniable right to establish an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem Al Quds as its capital.
