ALGIERS- In a poignant display of resilience and determination, Palestinians in the West Bank celebrated the release of 39 Palestinian prisoners, comprising women and youth under 19. This symbolic victory comes in the face of longstanding challenges posed by the Zionist occupation, dating back to the Nakba of 1948. The path to complete liberation, although marked by significant strides, still presents hurdles that demand unwavering courage.
The festivities on Saturday evening saw convoys of vehicles adorned with flags representing various Palestinian movements parading through the streets. A Red Cross bus, carrying the released prisoners, was escorted amidst jubilation. This event reflects the enduring spirit of the Palestinian people, who have made immense sacrifices in their quest for justice.
In East Jerusalem (Al Qods Est), celebrations took on a more subdued tone. The presence of heavily armed and helmeted Zionist security forces was notably pronounced, particularly around the residence of Israa Jaabis, 39, the most well-known among the released prisoners. Israa’s image, raising her atrophied fingers and displaying a partially burned face in an Israeli courtroom, has become an emblem of the hardships endured by Palestinian detainees.
Israa Jaabis had been sentenced to 11 years in prison for detonating a gas canister in her car at a checkpoint in 2015, causing injury to a police officer. Simultaneously, thirteen Zionists and four Thais were released on the evening of November 25. The Zionist media, in their coverage, labeled Israa Jaabis a “terrorist,” sparking controversy.
The release of prisoners serves as a testament to the endurance of the Palestinian struggle. While celebrations echo the victories achieved, the arduous journey toward the complete liberation of Palestine persists, navigating through complexities and obstacles.
