Parliamentary Assembly of Mediterranean: “Excellence Award” Bestowed upon President Tebboune

Algiers- Algeria, May 15, 2024 – The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), convening for its 18th session of the General Assembly in Braga, Portugal, has bestowed its “Excellence Award” upon President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in recognition of Algeria’s humanitarian and solidarity efforts towards Tunisia during the Covid-19 pandemic, as stated by the Council of the Nation.
Algeria’s Ambassador to Portugal, Chakib Rachid Gaïd, received the “Excellence Award for the Mediterranean” on behalf of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The award acknowledges Algeria’s significant humanitarian and solidarity role in supporting Tunisia during the pandemic’s challenges. This award, bestowed annually, celebrates the contributions and initiatives of Mediterranean member states’ governments that advance the development and promotion of the region, aligning with the aspirations of its peoples.
Additionally, the Algerian Civil Protection was honored by the PAM for its notable contributions. The Civil Protection received recognition for its units’ pivotal role in rescue operations following the earthquake in the Gaziantep region (Southern Turkey) and Northern Syria, as well as for its participation in rescue efforts following floods in Derna, Libya.
The proceedings of the PAM commenced with the participation of over 250 delegates representing 26 national parliaments and 25 international organizations. These delegates gathered to discuss the activities of the three standing committees of the PAM, focusing on cooperation in political, security, socio-economic, and environmental realms, as well as inter-civilizational dialogue and human rights.
