ALGIERS- The Minister of Transport, Mohamed El Habib Zahana, along with the Minister of Fisheries and Fisheries Products, Ahmed Badani, presided over a coordination meeting on Thursday to assess the implementation of the approved work program by both ministries. The joint ministerial committee responsible for managing the infrastructure of maritime fishing ports oversees the program.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Fisheries, during the meeting, the ministers discussed various points of the work program, emphasizing the implementation of instructions and commitments of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. One of the key points addressed was addressing the management issues of fishing ports, protecting their sites, and ensuring the provision of logistical services to support stakeholders in this field. Additionally, allocating and preparing places for mending fishing nets and aquaculture at the port level, providing spaces for cooperatives, fuel supply stations, and refrigeration rooms, as well as ice production.
The ministers also discussed allowing fishermen to import used large ships intended for deep-sea fishing, which are less than five years old. They also discussed expanding the establishment of unified offices for the National Social Insurance Fund for Salaried and Non-Salaried Workers (CNAS/CASNOS) at the level of maritime fishing ports.
On the sidelines of the meeting, a partnership agreement was signed between the National Institution for Shipbuilding and Repair (ERENAV) and the Algerian Chamber of Maritime Fishing and Aquaculture. The agreement allows owners of maritime fishing vessels to carry out maintenance and repair operations at the institution’s units and workshops, using Algerian expertise and labor at preferential prices instead of resorting to foreign countries for such operations in hard currency.
