Passing of Prof. Michel Martini, a Friend of Algeria: Laid Rebiga Offers Condolences

BY: Hana Saada

ALGIERS- Minister of Mujahideen and Rights Holders Laid Rebiga expressed his condolences on the passing of Professor Michel Martini, describing him as a loyal patriot and a strong fighter who believed in the humanitarian principles of the November 1, 1954 Revolution.

Rebiga highlighted Martini’s contributions during the revolution, where he joined the ranks in 1955 to tend to and care for the wounds of the members of the National Liberation Army, enduring the hardships of house arrest after his arrest by colonial authorities. Upon his release, the revolutionary command entrusted him with organizing trauma courses for Algerian doctors and nurses, as well as establishing a rehabilitation center near the Algerian-Tunisian border.

The late Martini played a significant role in training and preparing young individuals to take charge of the healthcare sector after independence. His impact is still visible in Algerian hospitals where he practiced, including the Douera Hospital where he retired in 1987. Following retirement, Martini dedicated himself to writing memoirs that enriched the Algerian history library.

Minister Laid Rebiga extended his sincere condolences and expressed deep sympathy to the family of the deceased, his fellow mujahideen, and comrades of the Revolution. He prayed that the Almighty would welcome him into His vast paradise and provide patience and comfort to his loved ones during this difficult time.
