Algiers, Algeria | June 23rd, 2024 — An unusual statement announcing the departure of Vladimir Petkovic circulated yesterday, with the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) denouncing it as a blatant attempt at manipulation.

A Fake Announcement

A fabricated communiqué, which closely resembled an official announcement, claimed that the contract of the national team coach Vladimir Petkovic had been terminated by mutual agreement with the FAF. This false statement was spread through a fake Twitter account posing as the federation president Walid Sadi.

FAF’s Official Statement

The Algerian Football Federation denounces the unfortunate defamation campaign orchestrated against the national team, using fake accounts on social networks to conduct their vile propaganda for undisclosed purposes.

At a time when the national team is gradually regaining stability and performance, it seems to displease certain circles known for their grotesque actions and destabilization attempts.

The Algerian Football Federation reassures the fans of the national team that the staff led by the national coach, Mr. Vladimir PETKOVIC, has the full confidence of the federation. The FAF will support him fully to help achieve the outlined objectives.

The Algerian Football Federation will spare no effort to preserve the stability of the national team and will pursue legal action against the creator of the fake account.

Background and Implications

This incident comes at a crucial time for the Algerian national team, which has been showing signs of improvement and progress under Petkovic’s leadership. The spread of false information is seen as a deliberate attempt to undermine this progress and create unnecessary turmoil within the team and its supporters.

The FAF’s strong response indicates their commitment to maintaining the integrity and stability of the national team, highlighting their readiness to take legal measures to protect against such deceptive practices.
