ALGIERS- In recent times, domestically produced automotive oils in Algeria have undergone remarkable advancements in manufacturing quality and standards. They are now not only competing with their foreign counterparts but also surpassing them in terms of quality, affordability, and sales figures. Microphone Dzair Tube recently gathered statements from oil sellers and consumers who have used these products, revealing a significant optimism surrounding Algerian-made automotive oils.

According to a local oil shop owner, there has been a noticeable surge in Algerian consumers’ interest in locally manufactured automotive oils, including brands such as Total, Naftal, and Petro Baraka. This increased demand follows the surge in prices of imported oils, which has put a strain on consumers’ purchasing power.

The seller highlighted the competitive pricing of locally manufactured Petro Baraka oil, which typically does not exceed 4,500 Algerian dinars. In contrast, imported oils often surpass this price significantly, despite Petro Baraka meeting international standards of quality, approved by renowned companies such as Mercedes, Renault, Peugeot, and Volkswagen.

Emphasizing the growing preference for domestic products, the seller noted a significant shift in consumer trust towards Algerian-made oils. He provided a simple comparison between the price of locally manufactured Liqui Moly oil, which is also around 4,500 Algerian dinars, and the price of imported Castrol oil, which can reach up to 17,000 Algerian dinars.

Responding to inquiries, consumers shared their positive experiences with locally manufactured oils, citing their competitive pricing and manufacturing quality. They expressed satisfaction with the endorsement of these products by international brands.

Furthermore, the interviewees noted the Algerian government’s stringent regulations on locally manufactured products, ensuring compliance with international standards and qualifications for global marketing.

Another oil merchant in Bab El Oued, Algiers, echoed similar sentiments, affirming the significant improvement in quality and affordability of locally manufactured oils compared to their foreign counterparts. He emphasized that these products have gained recognition from major global companies and are more aligned with Algerian consumers’ purchasing power.

One customer attested to personally using locally manufactured oils due to the exorbitant prices of imported ones, highlighting that Algerian-made products now compete favorably in terms of quality.

The success of Petro Baraka and other domestically produced automotive oils reflects a proud achievement for Algerian industry, setting new benchmarks in the global automotive oil market. As consumers increasingly prioritize affordability and quality, Algerian manufacturers are well-positioned to meet their needs and contribute to the nation’s economic growth and self-reliance in the automotive sector.
