Algiers, Algeria | October 25th, 2024 — Sonatrach has received a new shipment of equipment for the construction of seawater desalination plants, delivered on the world’s largest cargo plane.
According to a statement from Sonatrach, this shipment is part of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s program to strengthen Algeria’s water security through seawater desalination. This program, a supplementary national initiative, includes the construction of five major desalination plants with a total capacity of 1.5 million cubic meters per day. Under the direction of Sonatrach’s CEO, Rachid Hachichi, the company and its subsidiaries have initiated an airlift to transport equipment and materials for these projects.
The statement highlighted the use of the largest commercial cargo planes globally to maintain the swift pace required to complete these projects on time.
This latest shipment, which arrived at Houari Boumediene International Airport on Friday, contained 79 tons of equipment, specifically motor speed controllers for medium-pressure stations. Representatives from the Algerian Energy Company and the Algerian Company for Major Industrial Projects, both Sonatrach subsidiaries, were present to receive the shipment.
Sonatrach emphasized that these efforts reflect the company’s commitment to delivering these projects within the planned timeframe. The CEO personally oversees the progress of the desalination plant projects due to their critical importance and direct link to Algeria’s water security, a priority for the country’s leadership.
