Port of Mostaganem: 98,000 tons of goods exported during 1st quarter of 2023

ALGIERS- Exports of goods from the port of Mostaganem during the first quarter of this year reached 98,000 tons, according to figures issued by the general management of the port company.

According to the same figures, non-hydrocarbon exports from the port of Mostaganem recorded an increase of 30% compared to the same period of the past year.

From January 1 to March 31, 98,000 tons of various goods were exported, including food, agricultural products, and building materials, in addition to ferrous and chemical products, to several destinations, compared to 76,000 tons during the same period in 2022, according to a report on the activities of the port company.

The same source attributed this increase in exports to the multiplication of shipments, in particular building materials (rebar), (158%), helium (125%), clinker (12%), as well as export of new products, such as; raw lead and others.

“At the same time, the port company maintained the same export volume of food products as before, in particular dates that reached, during the first three months of the year, nearly 1,600 tons,” emphasized the same source. These products have been exported to several countries, including the United States of America (USA), the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Belgium, and Greece, among others.

Regarding container activity, 1,500 containers have been shipped since the beginning of the year, an increase of 115%, with a total net weight estimated at 6,300 tons, against 3,160 tons during the first quarter of the previous year, an increase of 192%.

The Port Company of Mostaganem recorded, in total, a growth of 5% of its activity, thanks to the increase in exports and the fall in imports, which amounted to 145,000 tons (-7%), of wood , potato seeds, cereals, building materials, and chemicals, the same source noted.
