Preparations Underway for African Summer University on Civil Society, Solidarity

Algiers, Algeria | July 11th, 2024 —  The preparations for the African Summer University, themed “Civil Society and Building African Solidarity,” were the focal point of a significant meeting between Mr. Noureddine Benbraham, President of the National Observatory of Civil Society (ONSC), and Mr. Kamel Baddari, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. This crucial meeting took place on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at the Ministry’s headquarters.

The primary objective of the meeting was to activate the existing cooperation and partnership agreement between the ONSC and the Ministry. The discussions were centered on the logistical and strategic steps necessary to organize the upcoming African Summer University, which is anticipated to play a pivotal role in promoting civil society’s contribution to building solidarity across the African continent.

Key Participants and Contributions

Prominent ONSC members, including Mrs. Faiza Riyash, Mr. Mohamed Amine Boutalbi, Mr. Abdelhamid Khaldi, and Mr. Ali Sahel, President of the Community Network for Algerian-African Dialogue and Good Neighborliness, were in attendance. Also present were Mr. Djamel Daho, Chief of the Cabinet of the Observatory, and Mr. Nazeem Ilyas Youcefi, Advisor to the President of the Observatory. Representing the Ministry were the Chief of the Cabinet and senior officials from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

These discussions underscored the crucial role of civil society in fostering unity and cooperation within Africa. The African Summer University aims to provide a platform for civil society actors from various African countries to share experiences, strategies, and initiatives to enhance solidarity and mutual support.
