Algiers, Algeria | December 7th, 2024 — In a significant step underscoring the growing strategic ties between Algeria and South Africa, President Cyril Ramaphosa, accompanied by Minister of Energy and Mines Mohamed Arkab, visited the Central Supply Base of the First Military Region on Saturday, December 7, 2024. The visit, conducted under the auspices of Algeria’s Ministry of National Defense, offered an in-depth view of the nation’s military logistics and industrial capabilities.
Upon his arrival, President Ramaphosa was greeted by the Major General Commander of the First Military Region and the Major General Head of the Organization and Logistics Directorate at the General Staff of the People’s National Army. An honor guard representing various units of the People’s National Army rendered ceremonial honors, reflecting the importance of the occasion.
The visit began with a welcoming address delivered by the Major General Commander of the First Military Region, setting the tone for an engaging and detailed exploration of the facility. This was followed by a comprehensive presentation by the Brigadier General, Director General of the Central Supply Base, who highlighted the facility’s organizational structure, operational responsibilities, and its pivotal role in supporting Algeria’s defense capabilities.
President Ramaphosa then toured several key departments and workshops within the base, including the Mechanized Vehicles Renewal Division and the Advanced Casting Workshop. Detailed briefings were provided at each stop, showcasing the sophisticated processes and technologies underpinning the base’s operations. These facilities play a critical role in ensuring the readiness and modernization of Algeria’s military assets, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to self-reliance in defense logistics.
This visit comes amidst an intensifying partnership between Algeria and South Africa, marked by shared aspirations for sustainable development, regional stability, and the strengthening of South-South cooperation.
