President of Algeria’s Economic Renewal Council Moula Urges Citizens to Reform Consumption Habits Amidst Surging Domestic Production

Algiers, Algeria | February 22nd, 2025 —  “Algeria has reached an unprecedented level of food security, marking a definitive end to the era of scarcity, declared Kamel Moula, President of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council.” Speaking on the country’s remarkable strides in agricultural and industrial self-sufficiency, Moula emphasized that Algeria now produces the vast majority of its widely consumed products domestically, significantly reducing reliance on imports and stabilizing the national market.

Moula underscored the critical need for Algerian consumers to realign their purchasing habits with this newfound abundance, cautioning against excessive buying and unjustified stockpiling. “With the availability of food products assured, it is imperative that consumers adjust their behavior and abandon outdated practices of hoarding,” he stated, referencing the deep-rooted tradition of ‘Aoula’—the practice of stockpiling essential goods in Algerian households. While acknowledging the historical rationale behind such practices in times of scarcity, Moula argued that such behaviors are no longer justified in today’s Algeria.

“The country now produces a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, and essential food items, all proudly bearing the ‘Made in Algeria’ label. This is not only a source of national pride but also a genuine guarantee of market stability and consumer security,” Moula asserted. He further emphasized that excessive consumer-driven demand can itself create artificial shortages, urging citizens to act responsibly in their consumption patterns to prevent unnecessary market disruptions.

Highlighting the direct correlation between consumer behavior and economic equilibrium, Moula stressed that rational purchasing habits will play a decisive role in curbing market volatility and reducing waste. “Ensuring the stability of our markets is a collective responsibility. The era of scarcity is over, and Algerians must now shift from a mentality of fear-driven purchasing to one of sustainable and mindful consumption,” he concluded.
