The President of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio, concluded a three-day visit to Algeria, emphasizing the mutual commitment to bolster bilateral relations and collaborate on various global challenges. During his stay, President Bio engaged in discussions with his Algerian counterpart, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, covering a range of topics including bilateral cooperation, trade exchanges, and the sharing of expertise.

The leaders addressed key sectors such as energy, commerce, agriculture, industry, higher education, vocational training, and fisheries. A noteworthy outcome of their discussions was the establishment of a joint business council aimed at facilitating seamless communication between the economic operators of both nations.

President Tebboune underscored the importance of diversifying the cooperation between Algeria and Sierra Leone, expressing the need to create robust ties at both bilateral and multilateral levels. The leaders’ dialogue delved into profound discussions on issues of mutual interest, fostering cooperation, consultation, and solidarity.

Coinciding with the commencement of Algeria and Sierra Leone’s terms as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, President Tebboune urged collaboration between the two nations to preserve global peace and security. He called upon the international community, particularly the Security Council, to address the historical injustice endured by the Palestinian people, emphasizing the urgency of responding to acts of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity committed by Israeli settlers.

President Bio echoed these sentiments, expressing Sierra Leone’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of two states for lasting peace. Regarding the Western Sahara issue, President Bio reiterated his support for the UN resolutions aimed at finding a mutually acceptable solution.

Algeria and Sierra Leone pledged to work together within the framework of the African Union to enhance peace and security on the continent and resolve conflicts. President Tebboune seized the opportunity to advocate for rectifying historical injustices against Africa, urging President Bio, as the head of the commission of ten AU Heads of State and Government, to champion equitable representation through a reform of the UN Security Council.

The visit of President Bio to Algeria marks a significant step towards fostering a new dimension in inter-African cooperation and a commitment to addressing pressing global challenges through collaborative efforts.
