Algerians in Luxembourg Association Hosts Football Tournament Marking December 11 Anniversary

Algiers, Algeria | December 17th, 2024 — In commemoration of the historic December 11 events, the Algerians in Luxembourg Association, under the leadership of its president, Karim Aknine, and in coordination with the Algerian Consulate General in Brussels, organized a vibrant and spirited football tournament in Luxembourg.

The tournament brought together enthusiastic players from the Algerian diaspora residing in Luxembourg, Brussels, and Germany. This event, which transcended borders, served as a unifying platform, reflecting the strong bond of Algerians abroad and their commitment to celebrating national memory through sportsmanship and cultural connection.

The organizational and technical aspects of the tournament were overseen by Mourad Boukellal, the former star of USM El Harrach and JS Kabylie, whose expertise and presence added a professional edge to the event. Boukellal’s involvement ensured a smooth and competitive atmosphere, earning praise from both participants and spectators alike.

Highlighting the tournament was the participation of Sofiane Ikene, a talented Algerian footballer currently active in the German league. His presence inspired the younger generation of players and showcased the professional caliber emerging from the Algerian community abroad.

The event was met with overwhelming enthusiasm and appreciation from participants and attendees, underscoring the importance of sports in fostering community cohesion and cultural pride among the Algerian diaspora.

In this vein, the Algerian Consulate General in Brussels praised the initiative, affirming its commitment to supporting cultural and sporting activities that connect Algerians abroad to their roots.
