President Tebboune Advocates for African Development, Algeria’s Commitment, Efforts in the 21st IDA Resource Replenishment Process Highlighted

ALGIERS- In a speech delivered on his behalf by Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui at the International Development Association (IDA) Summit for Mobilizing Resources for Africa, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune underscored Algeria’s unwavering commitment to advocating for development in Africa. He recalled Algeria’s strenuous efforts to enable African countries to secure necessary financing to achieve their development goals and encouraged all initiatives aimed at economic recovery and sustainable growth across the African continent.
President Tebboune emphasized that Algeria’s efforts stem from its African identity and historical commitment to solidarity and unity on the continent. He highlighted Algeria’s deep conviction in the interdependence of security and development, aiming to strengthen cooperation, policy coordination, and capacity building among African countries to address development challenges. Algeria has supported development projects in several neighboring countries through the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development (AACI), to which the Algerian government has allocated a sum of one (1) billion USD.
Supporting the 21st IDA Resource Replenishment Process
President Tebboune reiterated Algeria’s support for efforts aimed at mobilizing resources for Africa during the 21st IDA resource replenishment process. He expressed hope that this would provide the necessary financial capacity to integrate all African national priorities into the IDA’s action plan and move towards a more equitable and sustainable future.
Reviewing Algeria’s Development Experience
The President reviewed Algeria’s development experience, highlighting its balanced approach that combines economic development with strengthening the social fabric of the state, placing citizens at the center of development policies.
In his speech, President Tebboune emphasized Algeria’s deep economic reforms to build a new economic model based on economic diversification, wealth creation, and entrepreneurship, particularly in investment and financial sectors.
He also highlighted the social aspect of the state and its efforts to achieve social justice and provide citizens with quality services in all areas. Algeria’s approach has positioned it well in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Africa, he noted.
Addressing African Development Priorities
President Tebboune called for considering the development needs and national priorities of African countries in the 21st IDA resource replenishment process. He reiterated Algeria’s support for initiatives and mechanisms to bridge the financing gap, increase development aid volumes, and implement effective instruments to reduce the impact of debt, including debt cancellation, restructuring, and debt service suspension, especially for the least developed countries.
He stressed the importance of freeing policies related to food and health security from purely economic approaches, particularly in terms of access to food products and medicines, and the importance of mobilizing resources to support these countries’ efforts in all priority areas.
President Tebboune also highlighted the need to accelerate the implementation of inclusive continental projects and the AU Agenda 2063, recalling Algeria’s efforts in this regard through inclusive approaches to its national projects and in its direct neighborhood.
