President Tebboune Affirms Algeria’s Commitment to Non-Aligned Movement Principles in UN Security Council

ALGIERS- In his address at the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in Kampala, Uganda, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune reiterated Algeria’s commitment to defending the values and principles of the Non-Aligned Movement within the United Nations Security Council.

Serving a two-year term as a non-permanent member, President Tebboune emphasized that Algeria, drawing on its historical trajectory, unwavering values, and ambitious future vision, aims to strengthen international multilateralism as a cornerstone of its foreign policy.

President Tebboune, represented by Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui, stressed the importance of prioritizing peaceful conflict resolution over confrontation, highlighting Algeria’s commitment to addressing the root causes of conflicts. He outlined Algeria’s determination to contribute actively to the international community by promoting peaceful solutions and tackling the underlying factors leading to disputes.

The President affirmed Algeria’s dedication to upholding the values and principles of the Non-Aligned Movement, acknowledging their continued relevance and effectiveness. These principles serve as a basis for Algeria’s positions on various regional and international developments and guide its efforts to contribute to global security and stability.

Furthermore, President Tebboune pledged Algeria’s collaboration with other NAM member states to build bridges of dialogue and understanding among diverse parties within the United Nations Security Council. He emphasized the necessity of crafting essential agreements on issues crucial to the Non-Aligned Movement. This collaborative approach aims to enhance the effectiveness of international efforts in preventing conflicts, supporting the roles of influential international and regional organizations, including the Non-Aligned Movement.

President Tebboune expressed his optimism about intensifying coordination, cooperation, and solidarity among NAM member states to contribute to shaping a new international system. This envisioned system is expected to safeguard human values and uphold the principles and purposes outlined in the United Nations Charter.
