ALGIERS- President Abdelmadjid Tebboune declared, on Monday, that measures related to salary revaluation and tax reduction will come into effect starting in 2024. The announcement was made during the inaugural session of the international seminar on “Social Gains with Economic Implications,” where Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui delivered the President’s speech.

In his address, President Tebboune emphasized the government’s commitment to reinforcing the country’s social policies. He stated, “The state’s social policy will be enhanced in the coming period through the implementation of measures related to salary enhancement and the reduction of the tax burden from the beginning of the year 2024.”

The President highlighted that these improvements would be supported by positive outcomes resulting from the implementation of the new investment law and the progress made in local development programs, especially in the mining sector, and the overall enhancement of the business environment.

President Tebboune commended Algeria’s resilience in facing various challenges to build a competitive economy. He underscored the nation’s dedication to a comprehensive economic reform agenda aimed at diversifying the national economy, fostering entrepreneurship, and improving trade and investment.

The economic reforms undertaken by Algeria include significant legal system overhauls, innovative land allocation and management models, revisions to monetary and banking laws, and the establishment of numerous entities to encourage innovation. President Tebboune highlighted the transparency, anti-bureaucracy, and equal opportunity principles that underpin these reforms.

The President emphasized that these economic reforms have successfully generated thousands of jobs, emphasizing that economic policies are intricately linked with the social dimension of the state. In recent years, public policies have prioritized supporting citizens’ purchasing power, with salary increases benefiting over 2.8 million public sector employees and contract workers. The initiatives also aimed at improving the situation of individuals with specific needs and the less fortunate.

Addressing challenges arising from high international commodity prices and safeguarding citizens’ living standards, President Tebboune highlighted the substantial efforts deployed by the state in social transfers. These transfers constitute a significant portion, accounting for 18.45% of the general state budget for the year 2023.

As Algeria charts its course toward a more resilient and prosperous future, the President’s announcement reflects a holistic approach to socio-economic development, prioritizing both the well-being of citizens and the nation’s economic competitiveness.
