Algiers, Algeria | April 21st, 2025 — In a decisive and high-level move reflecting Algeria’s vigilant approach to safeguarding national sovereignty and internal stability, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defence, presided over a crucial meeting of the High Security Council on Monday.
The High Security Council—the nation’s foremost institutional body for strategic and security-related deliberations—brings together the highest civilian and military authorities in the country. The Council includes the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, the Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, as well as the Ministers of Justice, Interior, and Foreign Affairs, in addition to the Director of the Presidential Cabinet.
Other key participants include the Commander of the National Gendarmerie, the Director General of National Security, the Director General of Documentation and External Security (DDSE), the Director General of Internal Security, the Director General of Counter-Sabotage, and the Director of Military Security at the Ministry of National Defence.
The Council meets in ordinary session whenever national interests so demand, particularly when pressing security matters of internal or external dimensions arise. According to official provisions, the Council is tasked with “deliberating on any matter affecting national security, whether of domestic or international origin.”
