Algiers Condemns Lack of Inclusive Coordination, Reaffirms Commitment to Palestinian Cause on the International Stage

Algiers, Algeria | March 2nd, 2025 — Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has opted not to participate personally in the upcoming Cairo Summit scheduled for March 4, delegating Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, to represent Algeria instead. This decision, as revealed by the Algerian News Agency (APS), stems from Algeria’s deep dissatisfaction with the manner in which the summit has been orchestrated—excluding key stakeholders from the preparatory process and narrowing the scope of Arab coordination on the Palestinian issue.

According to an informed source, President Tebboune expressed profound discontent over what he perceives as a deliberate sidelining of certain Arab nations in the planning of the summit, raising serious concerns about the monopolization of decision-making by a select group of countries. This exclusionary approach, Algeria believes, undermines the fundamental principle of Arab unity and weakens collective efforts to support the Palestinian cause at a time when unprecedented challenges threaten its very existence.

“The Palestinian cause is not an exclusive domain for a few nations to dictate terms or set the agenda. It is the central and shared responsibility of the entire Arab world,” the source emphasized, conveying Algeria’s frustration with the opaque nature of the summit’s preparations. The Algerian leadership views this as an affront to Arab solidarity, particularly as it comes at a critical juncture when the Palestinian struggle requires a unified, unwavering, and strategic response.

Algeria, long known for its principled and unwavering stance in defense of Palestinian rights, has consistently advocated for an inclusive and comprehensive approach to Arab diplomacy. The nation has played a pivotal role in pushing for tangible international actions, including its efforts at the United Nations Security Council, where it has been championing resolutions that reinforce Palestinian sovereignty and oppose Israeli aggression.

Despite its absence from the Cairo Summit, Algeria remains steadfast in its diplomatic offensive on multiple fronts. It continues to mobilize international support for Palestine through coordinated action at the UN, the African Union, and other multilateral platforms. “Algeria neither seeks gratitude nor recognition for its commitment to the Palestinian cause. However, it mourns the state of fragmentation that has engulfed the Arab world,” the source lamented.
