New York, September 21, 2023 – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria, following his impassioned address during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, continued to forge essential diplomatic ties with key allies and partners. The President’s whirlwind of meetings with prominent global leaders highlights Algeria’s commitment to strengthening economic and political cooperation, advocating for a fairer world order, and accelerating its integration within the African continent.

After his inspiring intervention at the UN, President Tebboune embarked on a series of high-level discussions with leaders from Italy, South Africa, Uganda, Cuba, and Tunisia. These meetings were pivotal in reinforcing Algeria’s strategic partnerships and its dedication to addressing pressing global challenges.

President Tebboune’s diplomatic endeavors began last Saturday in New York when he engaged in face-to-face discussions with several leaders from partner and friendly nations. These conversations covered an array of topics of mutual interest, including bilateral economic cooperation and pressing geopolitical matters. Among the salient issues were sustainable development, and the urgent need for reform within multilateral institutions and the United Nations Security Council.

During these discussions, President Tebboune held vital talks with the President of the Italian Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni. Algeria and Italy have maintained a longstanding and increasingly close relationship, marked by shared perspectives on regional and global matters. Their cooperation extends across diverse sectors, including energy and industry, with collaborative efforts on key investment projects in areas such as the automobile industry, renewable energy, electricity, and the gas sector.

The leaders of both nations also see eye-to-eye on critical international issues, particularly those concerning the Sahel region and immigration. Their cooperative efforts extend to fostering inclusive development within the Mediterranean basin and the African continent, especially in the context of security and immigration, both of which are pivotal for the region. President Tebboune also met with Tunisia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Nabil Ammar, to discuss various facets of bilateral cooperation.

President Tebboune’s proactive foreign policy strategy also focuses on highlighting Algeria’s African heritage. This approach led to significant discussions with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and the Vice-President of Uganda, Jessica Rose Alupo. These meetings underscored Algeria’s dedication to accelerating economic integration within Africa, fostering stronger ties with African nations, and enhancing its role on the continent.

As the 78th UN General Assembly continues its work, President Tebboune’s diplomatic efforts serve as a testament to Algeria’s commitment to building equitable international partnerships and contributing to a more just global order. His vision extends beyond Algeria’s borders, as the nation actively engages with allies and partners to address shared challenges and promote inclusive development.
