Algiers, Algeria | April 27th, 2025 — In the wake of the devastating landslide that struck the Haï Sanaouber neighborhood (formerly known as “Planteurs”) in Oran, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune offered his heartfelt condolences on Sunday to the families of the four victims who lost their lives in the disaster. His message conveyed deep compassion and solidarity with the bereaved families, reaffirming the state’s commitment to providing full support during this painful time.

The landslide, which occurred between Saturday night and Sunday morning at the “Terrain Chabat” site in Haï Sanaouber, not only claimed four lives but also left thirteen individuals injured, some of whom remain under close medical supervision.

Responding promptly to the tragedy, a high-level ministerial delegation was urgently dispatched to Oran early Sunday morning. The delegation included Brahim Merad, Minister of the Interior, Local Assemblies, and Urban Development; Soraya Mouloudji, Minister of National Solidarity, Family, and Women’s Affairs; and Mohamed Tarek Belaribi, Minister of Housing, Urbanism, and the City. They were accompanied by Ali Badaoui, Director-General of the National Security Directorate, and Boualem Boughelaf, Director-General of Civil Protection.

The delegation’s first stop was at the emergency medical services department of the “Dr. Benzerdjeb” University Hospital Center (CHU) in Oran. There, the officials personally checked on the wounded victims, assessed the quality of medical care provided, and held consultations with the medical teams to ensure optimal support for the injured.

As investigations continue to determine the full extent of the damages and the causes behind the tragic landslide, the authorities reaffirm their vigilance in ensuring the safety and protection of citizens, especially in areas prone to natural hazards.
