ALGIERS- Noureddine Djoudi, the President of the International Association of Friends of the Algerian Revolution, affirmed that the late President Houari Boumediene’s support for liberation movements in Africa, notably the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination, was a “sacred duty and a non-negotiable principle” he ardently advocated for on various international platforms.
During today’s “Memory Forum,” Djoudi stated that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune is steadfast in the same position, refusing any discussion regarding the rights of the Sahrawi and Palestinian peoples to freedom and independence.
The Algerian diplomat highlighted the efforts of the late leader Boumediene in championing just causes, emphasizing that “supporting liberation movements was considered by the late president as a sacred duty and a fundamental cause that was not up for debate or dialogue.”
Djoudi continued by stating that Boumediene was a giant in supporting liberation movements in Africa. His commitment extended beyond the liberation of Algeria to the emancipation of all of Africa’s peoples under colonialism and racial discrimination.
The President of the International Association of Friends of the Algerian Revolution underscored that supporting liberation movements was always a primary objective and a sacred duty for President Boumediene.
After shedding light on Boumediene’s pivotal role in building the Algerian state across various domains, Djoudi provided vivid accounts of Boumediene’s supportive stances toward liberation movements. He emphasized Algeria’s strong solidarity with liberation movements in Africa, dating back to 1958 when, even before gaining independence, Algeria trained African freedom fighters.
In the same context, Djoudi pointed out that the late Moroccan King Hassan II did not participate in any conference attended by President Boumediene. King Hassan II only attended meetings of the Organization of African Unity after Boumediene’s passing. This was attributed to Boumediene’s unwavering stance on the Western Sahara issue, which he deemed “a fundamental cause not open for discussion or dialogue.” Djoudi stressed that “President Boumediene was committed to defending the Sahrawi people’s right to freedom and independence.”
