President Tebboune Grants Presidential Pardon on Algeria’s 61st Independence Day

ALGIERS- Nearly 9,000 detainees will receive presidential pardon and clemency, as announced in two presidential decrees signed today Tuesday. The first decree focuses on pardoning 8,537 detainees who have been definitively convicted in cases related to common law, insult, and defamation.

The second decree grants leniency to detainees who have successfully completed their middle cycle (BEM) examinations, vocational training, or obtained university diplomas during the 2022/2023 educational year.

According to a press release from the Presidency of the Republic, individuals convicted of terrorism, assassination, espionage, conspiracy against the State, attack on national unity, falsification of official documents, assault and battery resulting in disability, embezzlement of minors, attacks on state employees, hacking of state databases, counterfeiting, fraud and cheating, economic crimes, and drug trafficking are excluded from these measures.
