Algiers, Algeria | December 4th, 2024 — In a prestigious ceremony held at the People’s Palace in Algiers on Wednesday, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who also serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense, honored Algeria’s military sports elites who participated in the Military African Games held in Abuja, Nigeria. This recognition highlighted their exceptional contributions to Algerian sports and their role in elevating the nation’s standing on the continental stage.
The event, attended by high-ranking state officials, members of the government, and senior military personnel, began with the national anthem and was followed by a speech from General Saïd Chanegriha, the Minister Delegate to the Ministry of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army. General Chanegriha emphasized that the Algerian military’s extraordinary achievements, which led to the country securing second place in the overall standings behind the host nation, were a testament to the rigorous training and discipline instilled within the armed forces.
“The results achieved were not only exceptional but unprecedented,” said General Chanegriha. “They reflect the national commitment to integrating sports into the military training program, as prescribed by President Tebboune, ensuring our soldiers are not only prepared for combat but also excel in competitive arenas.”
He further highlighted that these achievements were a direct result of the state’s investments in providing the necessary resources—both material and human—dedicated to advancing military sports. The general underscored that the Army’s efforts were aligned with the broader goal of creating a professional military force rooted in national values and the rich legacy of Algeria’s glorious revolution and illustrious history.
In his message to the athletes, President Tebboune extended his warm congratulations, praising the team’s outstanding performance, which included a remarkable 96 medals, of which 53 were gold. “This achievement underscores the high level of professionalism and skill of our military elite, as well as the exceptional training programs that our soldiers benefit from, which uphold the legacy of the National Liberation Army,” President Tebboune stated.
The President was welcomed at the ceremony by General Saïd Chanegriha, the Commander of the Republican Guard, General Ali Ben Ali, as well as other military leaders and commanders of the People’s National Army.
This remarkable achievement at the Military African Games serves as a symbol of Algeria’s strong commitment to fostering excellence in all fields, from military readiness to athletic prowess, and reaffirms the country’s dedication to advancing its military sports programs to the highest standards of professionalism.
