President Tebboune Hosts AFRICOM Commander General Michael Langley

Algiers, Algeria | July 23rd, 2024 — On Tuesday, July 23, 2024, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria, who also serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense, welcomed General Michael Langley, Commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM).

The meeting took place at the Presidential Palace and was attended by key officials including Army General Saïd Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP), Boualem Boualem, the Director of the Presidential Cabinet, and Benattou Boumediene, the President’s Security and Defense Advisor. U.S. Ambassador to Algeria, Elizabeth Moore Aubin, was also present.

The meeting focused on discussing the security challenges facing the African continent, exchanging views on mutual interests, and exploring ways to strengthen military ties between the two nations.

Earlier in the day, General Langley met with General Chanegriha. During their discussions, the two leaders addressed various security issues pertinent to the continent and reviewed strategies for enhancing bilateral military cooperation. This dialogue is part of ongoing efforts to bolster security collaboration and address regional challenges.

This visit follows General Langley’s previous trip to Algeria in February 2023.
