ALGIERS- President Abdelmadjid Tebboune officially opened the 31st edition of the Algerian Production Fair at the Palace of Expositions (Pins Maritimes) on Thursday afternoon. During the inauguration, the President made significant declarations, emphasizing the need for a robust strategy to support national industries and explore export opportunities, particularly within the African continent.

In his address, President Tebboune urged the registration of enterprises and sectors capable of meeting the nation’s needs comprehensively. He proposed granting these entities export licenses, including participation in barter trade arrangements with African nations.

The President highlighted the potential for barter trade initiatives scheduled for 2024, involving Mauritania, Niger, and Mali. Specifically, he mentioned the exchange of goods such as oils and livestock.

“We must act swiftly. In 2024, we will compile a list of goods for exchange through barter with Niger, Mauritania, and Mali,” stated President Tebboune. He emphasized the necessity of precise figures, stating that accurate data, rather than approximations, is imperative for successful implementation.

President Tebboune further assured that products in Algeria, which traditionally rely on foreign currency for production, will be exported in limited quantities to avoid imbalances between local production, consumption, and imports.

The call for strategic export licensing and the exploration of barter trade aligns with Algeria’s broader economic objectives. The emphasis on strengthening self-sufficiency, promoting national industries, and diversifying trade partnerships reflects the government’s commitment to sustainable economic development.
